12th Annual OCRID Symposium

5/30/2025

The Oklahoma Center for Respiratory and Infectious Diseases (OCRID), based in Oklahoma State University (OSU), brings together researchers from multiple institutions and colleges across the state and conducts innovative, collaborative cutting-edge research focused on combating respiratory diseases.

On Tuesday, April 8, 2025, OCRID hosted its 12th Annual Research Symposium at Meditations in Stillwater. This event has been a wonderful venue to highlight the exciting work being done across the OCRID community and to connect with colleagues, collaborators, and friends.

The symposium was opened with welcoming remarks by OSU Vice President of Research, Dr. Kenneth Sewell, and featured talks from OCRID Pilot Project leaders, Center Investigators, students, and postdoctoral researchers. We were also grateful to this year’s keynote speakers, Dr. Jerry Nick (National Jewish Health, Denver), Dr. Kevin Legge (Carver College of Medicine, Iowa City), and Dr. Jennifer Phillips (Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis), who shared their insights and expertise.

A poster competition, preceded by flash talks, added to the excitement of the event. The OCRID Organizing Committee and External Advisory Committee (EAC) selected the winners:

  • Best Undergraduate Poster Elijah Brown
  • Best Graduate Poster Xueying Liang and Akshaya Surendran
  • Best Postdoctoral Poster Mandi Roe
  • Best Overall Poster Patil Nanjegowdu Basavaraju

A big thank-you to EVERYONE who participated and helped make the day a success! OCRID is especially grateful to the EAC—Drs. Jay Kolls, Adolfo Garcia-Sastre, Kevin Harrod, Ralph Tripp, and Jennifer Phillips—for their ongoing support and dedication to helping OCRID achieve its mission.

Students: keep honing those abstract-writing skills—we hope to see you (and your posters) next year!
